Abstract:
The majority students currently studying in the Institutions of Higher Education in Oman are Omani students that have come from an educational background of largely teacher-directed rote learning using state-developed curriculum and test-driven assessment, with little or for the most part inadequate English language training during their schooling years.
The study examines the success of cross cultural teaching and learning at Arab Institution for Higher Education in Oman. This is an exploratory study employed qualitative data and makes use of semi-structured interview in order to explore the perception of Arab students who receive their education in English by non-Arabic speakers from a culture and mindset different from their own. The findings suggested that there is an appropriate model for cross cultural teaching that is important to the learning success of Arab students. The study also summarizes some opinions for teaching across cultural barriers by the students.
Key words: Cross Culture, Arab Students, Barriers, Higher Education.
